All rooms in the house face south over the river. The spacious sitting room has a leather three piece suite, TV/DVD player, and patio doors opening right onto the river frontage and the fabulous raised, full-length sun deck. This is furnished with a table and chairs to enable you to dine al fresco. There is a log-burner effect electric fire for cooler evenings.
The kitchen is well equipped, with a dining area facing the river. There is one double and one twin bedroom, both with river views. Duvets and bed linen are provided. There is a good sized family bathroom with corner shower. Electricity is included in the rental price.
There is a large porch for storing outerwear and an outside WC, especially useful when fishing. There are two boat mooring dykes - one for your use (with the owners' boat kept in the other). A secure fisherman's shed with bait fridge completes the picture.
A selection of books, maps and travel guides are provided.
With so much to see and do, the Little House on the River is ideal for families. However, because of the unfenced river frontage, parents must judge the suitability for their children. There is no direct access to the house by car; although this adds to the peace and quiet and sense of seclusion, it does mean that cars must be parked in a free reserved spot near Potter Heigham bridge and all luggage transported either by water taxi, hire boat or a walk of approximately 5 minutes along the towpath (luggage cart provided).
The River Thurne is tidal, and occasionally the towpath becomes flooded, although there is access along the raised bank. Flooding is most likely to happen in the winter, when we are closed, but in exceptional conditions (a high tide and north-westerly wind blocking drainage into the sea at Gt Yarmouth) can also occur in early spring and late autumn. Most of our guests accept this and bring their wellies, but if you have mobility issues it may be best to avoid those times of the year. The house itself is raised clear of the river.
